# ST_Intersection (Python)

> Calculate the intersection of two Geometry columns or two Geography columns.

Calculate the intersection of two Geometry columns or two Geography columns.

Inputs must have the same spatial type. Geography intersections use geodesic edges and
return a Geography.

## Signature

ST_Intersection(a: ColumnOrName, b: ColumnOrName) -> Column
```

## Parameters

  One Geometry or Geography column to use in the calculation.
</ParamField>

<ParamField path="b" type="ColumnOrName" required>
  Other Geometry or Geography column to use in the calculation.
</ParamField>

## Returns

  Intersection of a and b with the same spatial type as the inputs.
</ResponseField>
