# GeoDataFrame.rename_geometry

> Renames the GeoDataFrame geometry column to the specified name.

Renames the GeoDataFrame geometry column to
the specified name. By default yields a new object.

The original geometry column is replaced with the input.

## Signature

```python theme={"system"}
rename_geometry(col: str, inplace: bool = False) -> GeoDataFrame | None
```

## Parameters

<ParamField path="col" type="str" required />

<ParamField path="inplace" type="bool" default="False">
  Modify the GeoDataFrame in place (without creating a new object)
