# GeoDataFrame.maximum_inscribed_circle

> Return radius lines for the largest circles within polygonal geometries.

Return radius lines for the largest circles within polygonal geometries.

Each result is a two-point LineString from the circle center to the
nearest point on the polygon boundary. Polygon, MultiPolygon, and
`None` inputs are supported; other geometry types and empty
polygonal geometries raise an error only when an action evaluates an
affected row. Partial actions may not inspect every invalid row.

## Signature

```python theme={"system"}
maximum_inscribed_circle(*, tolerance=None)
```

## Parameters

<ParamField path="tolerance" type="float, array-like, pandas Series, or pandas-on-Spark Series" default="None">
  Stop refining when the search area is smaller than this distance.
  By default, each geometry uses
  `max(width, height) / 1000`. A one-value local array-like is
  broadcast; otherwise it must have the same length as the
  GeoSeries. A pandas Series must also have the same index. A
  distributed Series must share the same frame and index as the
  geometry column. Negative values are rejected for scalar and
  row-wise inputs. This is intentionally stricter than GeoPandas,
  whose array path currently bypasses its scalar negative-value
  validation and emits implementation-dependent results. Length and
  index validation for local row-wise inputs is also lazy: an error
  is raised only when an action evaluates a mismatched row.
</ParamField>

## Returns

<ResponseField name="return" type="GeoSeries" />

## Examples

```python theme={"system"}
>>> from sedona.spark.geopandas import GeoSeries
>>> from shapely.geometry import Polygon
>>> s = GeoSeries(
...     [
...         Polygon([(0, 0), (1, 0), (1, 1), (0, 0)]),
...         Polygon([(0, 0), (0.5, -1), (1, 0), (1, 1), (-0.5, 0.5)]),
...     ]
... )
>>> s.maximum_inscribed_circle()
0    LINESTRING (0.70703 0.29297, 0.5 0.5)
1    LINESTRING (0.4668 0.25977, 1 0.25977)
