# GeoDataFrame.area

> Returns a Series containing the area of each geometry in the GeoSeries expressed in the units of the CRS.

Returns a Series containing the area of each geometry in the GeoSeries expressed in the units of the CRS.

## Signature

```python theme={"system"}
GeoDataFrame.area: ps.Series
```

## Returns

<ResponseField name="return" type="Series">
  A Series containing the area of each geometry.
</ResponseField>

## Examples

```python theme={"system"}
>>> from shapely.geometry import Polygon
>>> from sedona.spark.geopandas import GeoSeries
```

```python theme={"system"}
>>> gs = GeoSeries([Polygon([(0, 0), (1, 0), (1, 1), (0, 1)]), Polygon([(0, 0), (2, 0), (2, 2), (0, 2)])])
>>> gs.area
0    1.0
